Big news for ration card holders

 Government launches Mera Ration app

Learn how to get the benefit

For the convenience of card holders, the Center on Friday launched a mobile app Mera Ration.  The app will allow ration card holders, especially ration card holders from other states, to identify the nearest government cheap street shop in their travel area, get their share of ration information and facilitate the process of existing transactions.

The app was developed by NIC

Developed by the National Informatics Center (NIC), this Android based mobile app is currently available in Hindi and English.  It will soon be available in a total of 14 languages.  Under the National Food Security Act, the government provides cheap foodgrains to more than 81 crore people through PDS at a price of Rs 1-3.  The government is also introducing Ration Card Portability Service ONORC (One Nation One Ration Card) in 32 States and Union Territories.
People will benefit

Based on the scheme, Food Secretary Sudhanshu Pandey said the new mobile app aims to facilitate NFSA beneficiaries, especially traveling beneficiaries, with the facility of One Nation One Ration Card among dealers and other shareholders of fair value shops or ration shops.  He said that depending on the key features, the tourist beneficiary can also provide details of the trip through the mobile app.

The traveling beneficiary can register himself before starting his journey and the system automatically separates the food quota.  Apart from this the NFSA beneficiary can identify the nearest fair value shops and easily get his own grain.  The government, with the help of 5.4 lakh ration shops, provides 5 kg of subsidized foodgrains to each person every month.
