This is important news for you if your account is in the post office.  The rules regarding savings account in the post office have changed.  This new rule is effective April 1, 2021.  India Post Payment Bank has now decided to charge for withdrawals, deposits and AEPS (Aadhaar based payment system).  That means you also have to pay a charge for depositing and withdrawing money.

What is the charge on a Basic Savings Account?

If you have a basic savings account, you will not have to pay any charge for withdrawing money 4 times, but for transactions above that you will have to pay a charge of Rs 25 or 0.5 per cent.  As well as no charge for depositing money.

How much will be charged on savings and current account?

If you have a savings and current account, you can withdraw Rs 25,000 per month.  You will have to pay a charge of Rs 25 for withdrawing more than that.  Also, if you deposit cash up to Rs 10,000, there will be no charge, but if you deposit more than that, there will be a charge of at least Rs 25 per deposit.

India Post AEPS account will be charged

There are unlimited free transactions on the IPPB network, but for non-IPPB only three free transactions can be done.  This rule is for mini statement, cash withdrawal and cash deposit.  Once the free limit is met in IPPB, a charge has to be paid on the transaction.  A charge of Rs 20 will be levied on any deposit after the limit is met.
