Satpura Recipe


 Satpura Recipe




The word ‘satpura’ is made with two words, sat means seven whereas pura means layers. Hence, satpura is a seven layered puff or patty with a spicy potato filling inside.


Ingredients of Satpura


1 and a half Cup All Purpose Flour


1 tsp Oil


1 tsp Ajwain


to taste Salt


1 tbsp Butter


For Filling:


2 large Boiled Potatoes


1 tsp Garam Masala


1 tsp Red Chilli


1 tsp Coriander Powder


to taste Salt


to taste Black Pepper


1/2 tsp Cumin Seeds


1 tsp Chopped Ginger


How to Make Satpura


1.Start by kneading the dough. For this, take a mixing bowl, add all-purpose flour, oil, butter and ajwain. Mix everything well and knead a soft dough. Once done, cover it with wet muslin cloth and set aside.


2.Now take a small portion from the dough and start rolling it with the help of a rolling pin. Keep rolling until the portion gets very thin. Roll the dough into a rectangle 12"x 26". Once done, spread butter all over the portion. Dust it with all-purpose flour.


3.Place butter in center and fold first one end over, then the other. Spread butter and dust maida. Then again fold from both the corners, Keep folding until 7 times.


4.Refrigerate for an hour or more.


Meanwhile prepare the filling, heat oil in a pan.


1.Now add cumin seeds and wait until splutters.


2.Add chopped ginger and green chillies now.


3.Now add boiled mashed potatoes, add all the spices along with salt to taste.


4.Mix everything well and saute for 5-6 minutes.


To assemble


1.Take the dough out from fridge and dust it with some flour.


2.Roll it out into rectangular way.


3.Now cut the dough into four equal pieces.


4.Wet edges, place the mixture in one half and fold over. Press to seal.


5.Deep fry all the satpuras and enjoy with chole and chutney.
